Track & Field Dominates at Season Opener
The Nighthawks track and field team turned in a strong showing at the Finneytown Spring Thaw Invitational this past Saturday, highlighted by a first-place finish for the boys team and a third-place finish for the girls.
Despite competing with several athletes sidelined or limited due to injury, the girls team delivered an impressive performance. Josie Hyden '27 led the way with a second-place finish in the 400 meter dash and a third-place finish in the long jump. Jordyn Brown '28 added a strong day in the field events, placing second in the discus and third in the shot put, while Sally Zamary '27 earned a third-place finish in the discus. The 4x400 relay team of Hyden, Vanca Pandy '26, Gabrielle Gonzalez '28, and Nicole Hardesty '27 capped off the meet with a second-place finish.
On the boys side, the Nighthawks captured first-place as a team, fueled by multiple top-three finishes. Event champions included Max Sun '27, who won both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs, Luke Schnieber '27 in the 300-meter hurdles, and William Lothmann '26 in the 400 meter dash. The boys' strong performances powered Country Day to an impressive first-place finish.
It was an impressive way for the team to kick off the season and gain confidence going into their home meet this weekend. The team hosts the annual CCDS Invitational on Saturday (4/11) with several teams from the area attending. Field events begin at 9:15 and running events begin at 10:00.
